Avalanche warning for region Indre Troms Saturday 07.05.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Naturally released avalanches can occur in wet snow and in wind slabs. It will be strong winds and get colder during the day. If persistent weak layers are affected by people or weather, large avalanches can occur.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 6. May 2022

Mountain weather

Friday 6. May 2022

5 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1400 m a.s.l during the evening. Strong breeze from southwest. -4 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 7. May 2022

12 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l Saturday night. Gale from southwest, changing to gale from the west during the afternoon. -6 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
